If you are an Elastic Training Subscription holder you “have access to one exam and one practice exam per solution during the term of the subscription”. Enroll directly into the desired exam from your Elastic Learning Portal account.

Do I have to attend training to become certified?

Training attendance is not mandatory, but we highly recommend you attend our instructor-led training courses, available in-person, virtually or on-demand. Each exam has a course specifically designed to cover all exam objectives in detail. Visit elastic.co/training/ to find out more about which course is right for you.

Which version of Elasticsearch is the exam using?

  • Elastic Certified Engineer: 8.15
  • Elastic Certified Observability Engineer: 8.8
  • Elastic Certified Analyst: 8.8
  • Elastic Certified SIEM Analyst: 8.15

What is the format of the exam?

The Elastic Certified Engineer, Elastic Certified Observability Engineer and Elastic Certified Analyst exams are performance-based, meaning that you must successfully complete tasks in real time on an Elastic cluster while a proctor watches both you and your screen remotely. This approach to testing makes our certifications meaningful in the industry, since Elastic Certified Professionals have proven their skills in a hands-on environment.

The Elastic Certified SIEM Analyst exam is a timed cognitive-based exam. This exam requires answering multiple choice, select all that apply, fill in the blanks, and true or false questions centered around the Elastic Security solution.

How much does certification cost?

  • Elastic Certified Observability Engineer: $500 USD per attempt

Does my exam attempt expire?

Yes, you have a one-year window from the date of purchase to take your exam before it expires.

For those with a Standard or Professional Training subscription, all exam attempts will expire concurrently with your subscription. You are required to enroll, schedule, and complete any certification exam a minimum of 24 hours before your subscription ends. Any exam scheduled beyond the subscription's terms will be voided.

What if I need to change or cancel my exam registration?

We encourage exam takers to carefully review the emails and reminders to ensure that they are able to attend their exam at the self-scheduled time/date. You may reschedule your exam provided that it is at least 24 hours prior to your self-scheduled exam time. To reschedule, login to Trueability and select a new date and time.

Reminder:  You will be given 30 minutes to show up for your self-scheduled exam, after that the proctor will mark your exam as a "no show".  Failure to cancel, attend, or reschedule within the required timeframe will result in forfeiture of the attempt, with no free retakes or discounts offered.

My email address has changed. How do I update my registration?

To update your email address for exam registration, please contact certification@elastic.co.

Is there a way to verify if my computer and internet connection meet the necessary requirements?

Yes. You can review the minimum system requirements and run a compatibility check here

For optimal candidate experience, the minimum computer screen size is 13 inches.  However a larger display is strongly recommended to enhance the experience, making it easier to view content and tools, complete tasks, and engage with the platform during assessments.

Do I need to install any special software to attempt the exam?

The proctor will connect via the Honorlock Extension which you must install. You also will need a stable broadband internet connection, web browser, webcam, speakers and a microphone. (A live proctor watches you and listens to you during the exam.) Linux Systems are not supported and can not be used to take the exam.

An on-screen keyboard will be available from the desktop to assist with entering characters such as curly brackets if you have an alternative keyboard layout, or please prepare a US Keyboard to take to the exam.

Do I have to memorize the documentation?

During the certification exam, you will be granted access to the comprehensive Elastic documentation, located at https://www.elastic.co/guide/index.html. Your proficiency in navigating and utilizing this resource efficiently will be crucial to your success during the timed exam. Please note that access to other websites, including Google, Stack Overflow, or any other external online resources, is strictly prohibited during the examination.

TIP: Do not ask the exam proctor if you have access to the documentation. The answer is "yes", but the proctor will not know what you are talking about and will likely answer "no". In a way, they are correct - you can not access the docs using your local web browser. But you can access the docs (and all of elastic.co) from the web browser inside the exam environment's web browser after your exam has started.

When can I start my scheduled exam?

At your self-scheduled exam time, the Trueability system will activate the "Start" button, allowing you to begin your exam. You MUST start your exam within 30 minutes of this self-scheduled time. Failure to do so will result in an automatic "No-Show" designation, and you will not be able to take the exam. This also means you will forfeit the attempt, your exam will be considered redeemed, with no free retakes or discounts offered.

How do you verify it's me taking the exam?

When you login to attempt your exam, you will need a non-expired government issued photo ID (i.e. driver's license, passport) that matches your TrueAbility enrollment details. The Honorlock proctor will release the exam once your identification has been successfully verified and you have agreed to the exam's Terms and Conditions.

If you experience any issues with identification verification before the exam, please use the Honorlock Chat feature to engage with the proctor. Do not exit the exam, as this will lead to the forfeiture of your attempt. Please be aware that no refunds or reschedules will be granted if an exam cannot be started due to a failure to provide proper identification.

Can I take a break during the exam?

Yes. During the exam you may notify the proctor that you would like to take up to a 10 minute break to get a drink, eat a quick snack, use the restroom, and stretch your legs. Keep in mind your break counts toward your exam time. Cell phone use is NOT permitted during this break.

If you need special accommodations beyond this permitted 10 minute break for any reason or have any questions, please contact us at least 3-5 business days prior to attempting the exam at certification@elastic.co.

When do I receive my exam results?

You will typically receive your exam results within 7-10 business days.

How do I verify (and advertise) my certification?

All certification credentials are sent from our third party issuer, Accredible. You will receive an email with information on how to access your credential tool kit once you pass the exam. If you are interested in all the ways Accredible allows you to share, verify, and secure your credentials check out a quick video

For how long is my certification available?

Your credentials are available for 2 years from the exam date. Consider renewing your certification before your credentials expire.

My certification is about to expire, how do I get recertified?
